(with a specific interest on Karagoz and Wayang Kulit)

Shadow theatre is one of the oldest forms of entertainment which has been performed in various cultures throughout the history. It has its roots in China and India, and spread to other geographies such as Turkey and Indonesia. We are focusing here two specific types of shadow theatre from aforementioned countries, Karagoz from Turkey and Wayang Kulit from Indonesia. As a result of our research, we find out that these two types of puppetry have great similarities as well as differences. Among the similarities, we can count their same root, formats and methods. The differences, on the other hand, are the storyline, the characters, and the duration.
