Warwick 1B: Glocal

Our original keyword Post-colonialism which along with terms such as Globalization, Imperialism, and thin cosmopolitanism complicates the mutual existence of cultural pluralities existent in our other keywords; cross-fertilization of cultures and Universopolis. By negotiating between our keywords we discovered how much of our identities are framed by sites of uneven power dynamics juxtaposed with open sites of negotiation, yet we felt that the initial terms lacked a sense of neutrality. We observed that each of these terms attempted to account for our desire of an embodied cultural experience free of value judgments, race, commercialism and national borders. To seek a sense of place and time where our complex identities have the flexibility to freely explore and assert themselves in relation to both local and global communities. The concept of glocal offers more possibilities to situate yourself within and between the global and the local identities (See Figure 1.001)
